Personal Code of Ethics

I grew up with strict rules. My mother kept a tight household and poor behavior never went unnoticed. But perhaps the most important rule my mother ever taught me was The Golden Rule: treat others the way you desire to be treated. For me, my entire moral code is encompassed by this view. I consistently take the time to put myself in someone else’s shoes. Whether this be in social interactions or in keeping my academic integrity, I uphold the belief that if I don’t want it done to me I will not do it to others. As a little girl, I was often sent to the principal’s office for being a bit too honest. Since then, I have learned to be kinder when offering my honesty, but my principle remains the same — honesty and transparency are paramount. I am known by my friends as a trustworthy source because I will always be forthcoming. Kindness and honesty are the tenets of my existence and I strive to uphold them each and every day.

  • I will treat others as I would like to be treated. I will commit myself to acting in an honorable and acceptable manner among my peers and authority figures. I will consider the feelings of others before I speak. I will respect each person I come into contact with on a daily basis.

  • I will be truthful in all aspects of my life. I promise to both seek the truth and tell it to those who hold me accountable. Whether it be in my personal or professional life, I will be trustworthy and reliable.

  • I will be forthcoming on my shortcomings. I will always be the first to admit when I have made a mistake. I will be accountable to others to ensure I am doing the best work possible, and I will be transparent when I feel like I am not.

  • I will be in the constant pursuit of improvement in both my personal and professional life. I wish to be the best version of myself at all times, and the only way to achieve that is through improvement. I commit to keeping up to date on current events, trends, and technology in order to keep track of ways I can improve. In addition, I pledge to keep on top of my industry by attending speaking events and taking classes on the newest innovations.

  • I will adhere to my beliefs in the face of adversity. No matter what pressures are put on me, I will rely on my code of ethics to guide me through any given moral dilemma. I will not bend my morals to please a peer or authority figure despite the consequences.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

There is no better qualification than being at the top of your game.

A diverse workspace is not defined by the boxes that are checked when looking at a list of employees, a diverse workspace is compiled by hiring the most qualified people with differing life experiences. In order to foster diversity, I pledge to evaluate every individual based not only on their accomplishments, but how they achieved them. I vow to consider various narratives when making both professional and personal decisions. I desire to hear each voice in order to paint the most accurate description of a situation. I believe that diversity is achieved by having the most experienced individuals from the most varied backgrounds in the room. Fairness may be a subjective concept, but for me it is as simple treating others as you wish to be treated through the concept of equity.
